Educational Group Tours

We welcome colleges and universities to devise a richly rewarding experience for students interested in exploring a range of issues facing the people of Tanzania: from land management and environmental conservation measures to health and education; from sustainable development projects and women’s issues to the social anthropological significance of the Maasai people.
Our educational programs can range in length from seven to 14 days. Our popular two-weeks program includes five days of wildlife safari, five days in the Community (visiting many Tanzanian ethnic groups at schools, clinics, and villages), and four days on the island of Zanzibar. This can be tailored up to 21days.

For college and university students, a guided global experience can be life-changing. Kibo offers an unparalleled educational experience, taking students from the heights of Kilimanjaro, to the beaches of Zanzibar. Beyond the nature reserves, the Tanzania experience introduces students to community and business leaders who are working to improve the well-being of indigenous people.

From there, will upload information in the webpage in which Clients may be able to visit and see what we are doing to help the communities.

VOLUNTEER LIFE IN TANZANIA
For the home stays, we give that family money from your fee for support, food and board. It is exciting to stay with a family; that way you will learn the Tanzanian way of life, meet local people, eat local food and engage in local customs and traditions. Living is basic but all the home stays have electricity and running water and accommodate volunteers in SAFE and SECURE homes (some rural home stays may not have electricity or running water during times of drought).
All home stays have been inspected thoroughly by local staff s and chosen because of their safety and security. Do not worry about staying in a home stay—we would not place you somewhere that is unsafe. Most volunteers here love their home stays and feel that they get a more authentic Tanzanian experience by staying there. Sometimes the power and water go out due to some technical problems, but this is for both the volunteer house and the home stays. In this event, we always make sure that we provide bucket of water for bath and toiletries. Volunteers can expect to share a room with one or two other volunteers. While bedding is provided it is recommended that volunteers bring their own sleeping bag and mosquito nets for any trips away. Home stays are located in the town of Arusha and in the villages surrounding the country side of Arusha. Some home stays may be a 20-30 minute drive by public transport from the city Centre

ORIENTATION
On the first day of the volunteering placement, the volunteers will be escorted to the project and introduced to the staffs at the project you will be working with. Orientation will be conducted by staff in Arusha and cover everything you need to know for your volunteering placement in Tanzania—Introduction to Tanzania, Tanzanian customs, basic language training (Swahili), rules and expectations, safety, travel opportunities in Tanzania and Introduction to your project and placement. During the weekend, volunteers have spare time and usually just relax or take the opportunity to explore other parts of their local town and Tanzania in general. Long weekends can be taken to go on safari or to travel to places such as Zanzibar, Kenya or Uganda. If volunteers wish to work over the weekends they can join local teams

Women Projects
Tanzania, Maasai women are economically weak. Though Maasai culture is one of the major attractions of tourism industry in Tanzania, We feel that, Maasai people are not benefited proportional to the Income resulted from them (being counted as an attraction). A local NGO in NGARAMTONI,LOSIKITO,ILKIDNGA and Monduli district is presently running different programs to uplift the economic condition of Maasai women.
ILKDNGA has been running an income generating projects for Maasai women. In this project, Maasai women are trained to develop SACOS projects, Zero grazing cow milk, making traditional Masai crafts, beads, clothes, handicrafts, and other goods. These products are later sold in market and part of this income goes to women. This is a wonderful project, if you enjoy Maasai culture and rural life of Maasai people.

VOLUNTEERS ROLE
There is no formal structure (example well-structured office or infrastructure) in this women project
also no specific qualification needed to join the women’s projects . These Maasai women’s groups are coordinated by ILKDNGA. You will travel each village to other village (nearly 30-50 minutes) each day and support them. There are many works that you can engage in.

  • If you are an artist or professional having skills on crafts, beads, ornament, and handicrafts you can teach
them the recent techniques/designs so that they can make better products and sell their products in markets.
  • If you are non-professional but just want to work and support these Maasai women, then you can work with them learning how to make Maasai crafts, beads, ornaments. It would be a wonderful experience to work with one of the native tribes who respects foreigners.Maasai women’s group also needs volunteers’ help to learn English so that they can talk with tourists and sell their products directly. So, you can also run an informal English language class for Maasai women.
  • If you have knowledge and skills about marketing, then you can help Maasai women to develop marketing strategies and help them to sell their products in national and international market.
Besides women’s group, you can run English language classes for Maasai children and local youth with a little English knowledge Maasai youth can work as tourist guides making additional income for the family.
